Tradewind Social Care are currently recruiting for an experienced Adult Social Worker to join the Adult Disabilities team in the London Borough of Southwark.

The main purpose of this role is to assess and manage a caseload of elderly individuals and their carers who require additional support or guidance in order to identify their needs.

Main Duties:

To take responsibility for new allocations, contacting or visiting people who require assessments or reviews either for their current services or because of safeguarding issues

Will work to ensure that the needs of family members, carers, groups and providers of care are understood and will work with them towards ensuring that vulnerable adults receive the appropriate support which is the least restrictive option, whilst also recognising the need for intervention where necessary

To ensure that assessments are accurate and that service users are able to self direct the assessment process and make informed decisions

Identify who may need close monitoring or frequent reviews and interventions to minimise and manage risk, or where best interest decisions may be required

To ensure effective crisis intervention work by drawing on a range of local knowledge and using professional experience to make decisions that uphold autonomy whilst recognizing the social work role for safe intervention

To use legislation, guidance and reflective social work practice to ensure that key concepts and theories in social work are utilized to ensure the best possible outcomes for vulnerable adults

To provide assistance, guidance and direction to colleagues and assist senior colleagues and managers as required

The successful candidate will ensure that individuals remain at the heart of their work and they will empower vulnerable adults to make choices and to maintain their own autonomy wherever possible

Essential Skills & experience needed:

Good communication skills; listening, understanding, ability to express self to people from a range of backgrounds and cultures and ability to negotiate with service users, relatives and providers
Will be expected to work in a conflict environment and within situations that they may find challenging

Ability to make sound professional judgments

Ability to provide excellent verbal and written reports which can be considered within high level and legal settings

Be able to make critical decisions on behalf of the Authority which may be in conflict with the wishes of the service users and/or their families or care providers

Ability to complete Care Act, mental capacity and best interest assessments, and also safeguarding investigations

Experience in working with older adults with either physical or learning disabilities

Experience using Liquid Logic IT system would be advantageous

Job Requirements:
An enhanced DBS that is of satisfactory level is essential
Must have a minimum of 2 years experience
