Tradewind Recruitment are currently recruiting for Children's Residential Support Workers supporting children and young people aged between 13-18 with EBD for a setting in Kensington and Chelsea.

They require both waking night and day staff.

Main duties:

  • To assist in providing a stimulating environment which gives care, control and nurture appropriate to safeguarding and promoting the emotional and physical wellbeing of the young people resident at the Children's home. This will involve working closely in partnership with the family of the young person and with others.
  • In collaboration with others to help assess the needs of young people referred to or placed in the unit; to effect an early return home or a move on to an appropriate longer-term placement which may include remaining at Olive House
  • To provide excellent role models for young people through reflective and consistent care, supporting the team ethos, which is caring, supportive, non-judgemental, providing a powerful advocate for young people to promote their rights and their voice
  • To work as a shift co-ordinator, planning the actions required and keeping an overview of the needs of the young people on a shift
  • To undertake sleeping-in and shift duties, including working weekends, and Bank Holidays
  • To assist in the provision of a stable and nurturing environment to promote and safeguard the young
    people's welfare and promote their health and development, taking account of their culture, race, religion,
    disability, gender and sexual orientation
  • To communicate effectively with the young people and ensure that young people are appropriately
    involved in decisions about their care and living arrangements ensuring that their voices, wishes and
    feelings are central to their support plans, care plans and overall culture of the home
  • To set appropriate boundaries and provide the level of supervision necessary to ensure that the young
    people are protected and their welfare promoted
  • To take referrals and admit young people to the home, helping them to settle in, and paying attention
    to their immediate needs
  • To undertake Keyworker responsibilities and tasks with individual young people and their families. To
    develop with others a support plan of their needs following a period of assessment and undertake tasks
    identified to ensure the support plan continues to meets their needs
  • To undertake specific tasks to develop a partnership with families, other carers, professionals and
    agencies, to contribute to the care plan for each young person

Skills and experience:

  • NVQ Level 3 CYP or Residential Care
  • 2+ years' experience working in a residential children's home specialising in EBD
  • Enhanced DBS registered on the update service
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Children Act 1989, the revised Children's Home Regulations 2015, and the Quality Care Standards
  • Knowledge and understanding of needs of young people from different cultures, ethnic and religious backgrounds and those with disabilities
  • Awareness and understanding of issues relating to sexuality, sexual abuse and child protection
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Resilience to provide positive and continued support to children and young people in emotional crisis
