Children’s Social Worker

Wokingham

The successful candidate will manage a caseload of children and their families in a given specialism or client group, providing a direct professional service in response to assessed needs, completing assessments, and producing, implementing, monitoring, reviewing and evaluating care plans.

Main Duties:

  • Receive referrals and ensure that appropriate and timely action is taken in accordance with Wokingham’s child protection procedures
  • Carry out thorough assessments, including section 47 enquiries, within set time scales
  • Ensure that all information is regularly updated on both electronic and paper systems
  • Ensure that all work carried out is in accordance with the requirements of the performance management structure and guidelines
  • Ensure the family, child and carer are involved where possible in all decision making and information sharing,  working in a person-centred way ensuring choices and aspirations are acknowledged and that a professional and respectful response is given to all service users, colleagues and partnership workers at all times
  • To undertake responsibility for the following range of work within Child Protection, Children Looked After by the Local Authority and Children in Need and their families
  • To carry a caseload of Child in Need cases, assessing need, contributing to the formulation of plans for children, implementing and contributing to reviews of those plans and carrying out such tasks as may be necessary to do so
  • To receive referrals upon completion of an initial or core assessment whereby a need to work with the child and their family has been identified
  • To ensure that recording on case files is up-to-date and accurate at all times
  • To attend case conferences and represent the department at formal meetings, courts etc

Essential Skills and Experience Needed:

  • A detailed knowledge of the Children Act 1989 and other legislation relating to children plus other statutory regulations, guidance and procedures
  • Experience of undertaking complex social work assessment and practice that take fully into consideration the child/young person’s background and lifestyle choices
  • Experience of formulating support, protection and care plans which consider the range of services appropriate to meeting the needs of children/young people and their parents/carers and families
  • Ability to build empathetic and supportive relationships with children/young people and their families
  • Ability to communicate clearly and directly both verbally and in writing

Job Requirements:
An enhanced DBS that is of satisfactory level is essential
Must have a minimum of 4 years recent experience working within Frontline Children’s Services
All applicants must be Social Work Qualified with a valid HCPC registration
