Synopsis: Tradewind Social Care are currently recruiting for a Consultant in Public Health for Cheshire East Council CW11 1HZ

Cheshire East Council is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and adaptable Consultant in Public Health on a fixed term, full time basis with the potential for permanent placement in the future. If successful the applicant will have the opportunity to lead on Health Protection and the Wider Determinants of Health. This will present successful applicants with the opportunity to lead positive change across a borough with challenges such as urban deprivation and rurality. They will also have the opportunity to lead sub-regionally by working with CHAMPS our local public health collaborative.

The post-holder will be the lead for health protection and infection control ensuring that the local health protection system and local assurance structures are clinically effective and efficient.

Main duties:

· Ensure that local oversight and scrutiny of the local health protection system is in place and working effectively and efficiently e.g. the Health Protection Forum

· Develop links across the health and social care economy to ensure effective prevention and control of infections - whether vaccine preventable or healthcare acquired

· Oversight of infection prevention and control services

· Improving multi-agency working across health and social care to foster improved communication and cooperation to address emerging issues such as CPE and AMR

· Ensure an effective Health Protection response to outbreaks of infection and environmental hazards e.g. relating to air quality or concerns about chemicals in collaboration with Public Health England

· Provide public health input into council emergency plans and represent Cheshire East Council at the Local Health Resilience Partnership when required

· Develop joint work with environmental health colleagues on food borne diseases and environmental hazards

· Provide advice on health protection issues to elected members and Council officers and the public (drawing on Public Health England expertise as appropriate)

· The post holder will be required to work closely with Public Health England and the NHS including local Clinical Commissioning Groups

Essential Skills & Experience needed:

  • Inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List/UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists - This entails a masters programme plus further postgraduate medical specialist training
  • Applicants must meet minimum CPD requirements (i.e. be up to date) in accordance with Faculty of Public Health requirements or other recognised body
  • Delivery of successful change management programmes across organizational boundaries
  • Experience of using complex information to explain public health issues to a range of audiences
  • Must have local authority experience
