Tradewind Recruitment are currently recruiting for 3 Domestic Abuse Practitioners for our client in Harlow.

We are looking for 3 domestic abuse professionals to join the multi disciplinary 24/7 refuge team working on site as part of a rota.

1 x day/evening - 8am-8pm

2 x waking night - 8am-8pm

These roles are until end of March 2022 with possibility of extension.

Main prupose:

The Multi-Disadvantaged Specialist Refuge Domestic Abuse Practitioner (MDSRDAP) is an instrumental part of the exciting Hope House project, a specialist refuge for Hertfordshire women who have experiences of multiple disadvantages including domestic abuse. The MDSRDAP role is focused on working as part of a team to provide high standards of trauma informed practice and ensuring a positive outcome for each client. You will fulfil a specialist role as part of the multi-skilled team within the service, working collaboratively and holistically with other agencies to offer a coordinated response to improve the safety and wellbeing of the women who are residing in the refuge. You will ensure that you lead by example, working with professionals around the client to create a culture of engagement and improve responses to clients with multiple and intersecting needs. You will work with colleagues and other agencies to ensure holistic support is provided, and ensure realistic and supportive step-down processes are implemented that continue to build clients' resilience. You will ensure the voices of service users experiencing multiple disadvantages are heard.

Responsibilities:

  • To maintain and demonstrate a commitment to the Organisation's vision and values and strategic aims and objectives. To maintain high standards of professionalism and keep abreast of current legislation, standards, best practice and maintain a focus of continuous improvement
  • To maintain knowledge of the Organisation's operating environment
  • Work as part of a team to ensure the effective day to day running of the specialist refuge
  • Collaboratively with the team manage a caseload of 8 clients at any one time, ensuring each client receives the appropriate service individual to their needs
  • Ensure new referrals are assessed, carrying out secondary, multiple needs assessments and a case history with each client, and allocated within stated timeframes
  • Apply a trauma informed approach to establishing and maintaining effective relationships with each client through an understanding of the prevalence and impact of trauma and the complex paths to healing and recovery
  • Build a relationship with each client and engage at their pace and in their preferred way
  • Take a client led, flexible approach to provide practical and emotional support and advocacy
  • Work in a solution focused way undertake holistic assessments of risks and need with each client
  • Proactively assess the needs and safety of women at risk giving due regard to Adult at Risk policies and procedures
  • Identify and refer to services appropriate to client's needs
  • Carry out short and longer term risk management, safety planning and support that is personalised for each individual, building on their strengths, addressing risk and improving outcomes around safety, needs and well-being

Skills and experience:

  • IDVA qualification / Social Work Qualification or NVQ 3 in Childcare, Health, Social Care / Degree or equivalent level qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. social work, nursing, safeguarding
  • Extensive experience of supporting women who have experienced domestic abuse
  • Managing complex casework including risk and needs assessment, safety and support planning, particularly with clients with multiple needs / disadvantages
  • Partnership working and of maintaining excellent working relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • Experience of working in the safeguarding arena and / or a mental health setting
  • Good understanding of domestic abuse and trauma and the impact on clients and their children
  • Good understanding of multiple disadvantages and how they interconnect
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) with the ability to network, influence, and problem solve and apply solution focused approaches to increase access and safety and facilitate positive outcomes for clients and their children
