Tradewind Recruitment are currently recruiting for an Education Welfare Officer for Southwark Coucil.

You will be working with young people aged 10-18 years. Most young people are 15years, with a smaller number aged 12-14 years. It would involve working with providers of ETE and supporting the delivery of relevant group work.

  • Work directly with young people and provide a clear and accurate assessment of a young person's ETE needs in line with youth justice and statutory guidance, undertake interviews, literacy/numeracy assessments and gather information from young people, families and other agencies as directed by a Team manager
  • On the basis of assessed needs and risks, devise, implement and review intervention plans, to address ETE needs in line with Youth Justice National Standards.
  • Manage the caseload as directed and organise and plan work activities prioritising tasks and responsibilities.
  • Support the delivery of statutory youth justice responsibilities including, assessment meetings, home visits, arranging reviews, reporting to the court, delivering within timescales and meeting any other national and local performance standards.
  • Provide written and verbal reports, which are concise, informative and based on analysis of evidence.
  • Provide focused and purposeful interventions (1:1 and in groups), within a systemic framework, with explicit aims and objectives about desired outcomes within the context of managing risk and successfully engaging young people in ETE.
  • To work within a systemic framework to prevent offending by children and young people and protect the public from the harmful activities of young people who offend.
  • To provide a comprehensive and effective Education Training and Employment (ETE) service to respond to the needs of young people in a timely manner and within statutory guidelines.
  • To work closely with practice groups to assess need, plan and deliver focused ETE interventions to prevent offending, safeguard children and promote positive outcomes

Experience and skills:

  • Knowledge of Youth Justice Legislation, National Standards and Case
  • Management Guidance, Restorative Justice Principles, Education Legislation, relevant childcare legislation, statutory guidance and the London Child
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development, parenting capacity, environmental factors and risk and protective factors for offending or desistance particularly in relating to Education, Training and Employment.
