Tradewind Social Care have a fantastic opportunity for an Independent Reviewing Officer to join the Safeguarding Review & Quality Assurance team within Liverpool City Council.

MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • To assist with the development and operation of procedures to promote good practice standards for children looked after and children in need across partner agencies
  • To encourage and promote the participation of children and young people
  • To ensure information technology is used to promote good practice standards and increase the efficiency of services
    To chair Looked After Children Reviews and reviews of other cases as required i.e. disruption reviews, secure accommodation reviews and reviews of relevant children as required by legislation.
  • To undertake initiatives consistent with delivering the Care Matters and Every Child Matters agenda.
  • To ensure that all meetings are chaired and conducted to a high standard and conform to relevant procedures, policies and regulations and guidance
  • To ensure that effective records are created of reviews chaired and that those records are circulated within established timescales.
  • To introduce and participate in quality assurance initiatives reporting on how practice standards comply with procedures
  • To identify deficits in social work practice and to raise and challenge those deficits with social workers and social work line managers as appropriate
  • To review, audit and quality assure social work files
  • To direct decision making towards compliance with the law, the best interests of the child and good practice as described in the City Council's policies and procedures.
  • To exercise the duty under Section 118 of the Adoption and Children Act 2002 as appropriate
  • Where efforts to resolve practice concerns are unsuccessful and where the human rights of a child or children are believed to be at risk of being breached, to escalate concerns to Cafcass
  • To contribute to the delivery of service improvements and performance improvement in key areas through targeted action and robust quality assurance initiatives
  • To promote understanding of case standards and the common assessment across the partnership and to support the implementation of CAF through the LAC review process.
  • To participate in quality assurance arrangements across the partnership of agencies engaged in providing services for children.
  • To develop good liaison with colleagues in Social Care and with other agencies, e.g. health, education, police.

Requirements

  • Social Work Degree
  • Social Work England Registration
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all legislation relevant to the service user group/s
  • Knowledge of the Directorates policies, procedures and practices
  • Knowledge of current practices and processes for managing the needs of the service user group
  • Substantial post-qualification experience
  • Experience of duty and assessment work with local authority
  • Experience of working across other relevant agencies
