Tradewind are looking for an Operations Manager to take care of young people from residential or foster care placements and graduate them through our specialist Housing and Support schemes into independent, unsupported accommodation.
As an Operations Manager and part of the senior leadership team, you will deliver a high-quality service for our young people. You will lead senior support workers and operational staff ensuring they are challenged to maximise their potential, and in turn support Tradewind’s young people to achieve their best outcomes.
Accountability: You will be accountable to the directors, senior management team as well as to Regulatory bodies, such as Ofsted and CQC.

  • Passion for working with looked after children to better their opportunities and long-term life skills.
  • At least 2 years of senior level experience of management in the field of social work or residential children’s settings, managing a team, working with looked after children and young people with complex caseloads.
  • Graduate level with a degree in social work and/or management discipline in a relevant field.
  • Experience of developing and overlooking strategic documents, reports and monitoring progress working towards OFSTED framework.
  • Proven experience of managing local authority referrals and matching considered placements.
  • Ability to build and maintain lasting relationships with a range of diverse stakeholders, staff, clients, relevant agencies, local authorities, social work teams and key decision makers.
  • Excellent knowledge of current local safeguarding policy and practice and ability to implement this across the service.
  • A therapeutic approach, understanding the core values of young work, with sound knowledge of human growth and development and the effects of trauma, abuse, and deprivation.
  • Excellent written, verbal and communication skills
  • Ability to work On Call
  • A full driving licence/own transport would be ideal although this is not a specification for the job.
Main responsibilities:
  1. To develop, lead and inspire Tradewind staff team to meet all targets to deliver excellent services and opportunities to those in our care.
  2. Work with senior leadership to meet all actions as per the Strategic Plan for the service, including annual local business plan, quality assurance, as well as monitoring and updating programme of work to ensure targets are met.
  3. Ensure the safer recruitment and retention of the required number and types of well-motivated, trained and developed staff to ensure that Tradewind achieves its mission and objectives.
  4. Manage referrals from Local authorities. Maintain and further enhance communication and strengthen partnership working with all stakeholders including commissioners, social workers and other professionals/agencies involved in the care of young people that we work with.
  5. Represent Tradewind in networking with clients, suppliers, commissioning/brokerage teams, social workers, and other key stakeholders.
  6. Work with compliance team to co-ordinate Quality Management systems throughout Tradewind’s units to ensure quality services, system, and best practice.
  7. To contribute to a comprehensives staff training and development programme – including organising, participating in and giving training – to enable the homes staff to have available all necessary skills and levels of expertise to meet the needs of the young people.
  8. Develop, promote, and direct the implementation of equal opportunities policies in all aspects of the Companies work.
  9. Develop and direct the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure that the Company complies with all local protocol on safeguarding, child protection, heath and safety and other statutory regulations.
  10. To ensure that the Company’s financial and administrative procedures are adhered to and to work within a set budget.
  11. To organise duty rotas, assist in the management, appraisal, supervision, and support of all staff.
  12. In conjunction with our property partners, oversee the cleanliness, maintenance, and repairs/renewals at Tradewind premises for security, health and safety, fair access, equality, and diversity.
  13. Management of voids, vacancies, and referrals.
  14. Any other such duties as may be required from time to time by the Senior Management Team or their authorised representatives.
