We are currently looking for a Childrens Personal Advisor to work with the Social & Healthcare team within the London Borough of Westminster. The client location is Crompton Street.

Job Purpose:

  • To work close with the team manager and others to operate an effective duty system within the care leavers service
  • You will act as lead duty worker within the service's duty system
  • To create positive and effective relationships with young people, their carers and families and any other children's services staff
  • To deliver an effective and flexible service in partnership with young people, supporting the through the leave of care from preparation through transition into consolidation.
  • To support care leavers in pursuing appropriate education, training and employment that is needed to promote their social inclusion, monitoring their participation
  • To assist in developing and co-ordinating individually tailored support/Pathway Plans with each young person, identifying goals, tasks and the means of achieving these within agreed timescales
  • To attend and contribute to all relevant meetings and events and to represent the organisation as required
  • To maintain contact with the young person wherever they are living

Requirements:

  • Must show the ability to work within organisation guidelines
  • Have clear negotiation and advocacy skills
  • Ability to deliver suitable support packages
  • Must form close relationships with young people from a diverse range of backgrounds
  • Ability to deal with conflict and troubled young people
  • Ability to work in an anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive manner
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Record and report writing
  • ICT skills
  • Ability to change and to adapt yourself to meet the needs of the service as it develops
  • Must have had at least 12 months experience of direct work with vulnerable children or young people
  • An experience of positive joint-working across agency boundaries
  • Handling crises with young people
  • Experience of working with Education/Training/Employment/Housing providers
  • Must have knowledge of the principles of the Children (Leaving Care) Act, 2000 and Children Act, 1989
  • Knowledge of the Welfare Benefits System
