Tradewind Social Care are currently recruiting for a Principal Social Worker for the Family Plus Team in Cornwall - Truro TR1 1AF

The Principal Social Worker deputises for the Team Manager and represents the team in working groups set up to raise the quality of practice and improve the effectiveness of the service. They will work closely with the Principal Child and Family Social Worker and practice educators to establish and sustain a learning team culture.

Main duties:

  • To consistently demonstrate, promote and model the values and ethics of the profession and the Service in accordance with our Statement of Mission and Values
  • To model partnership working with children and young people, parents/carers, families and the child's wider network of family and friends to improve their outcomes.
  • To fulfil the role of 'corporate parent to children in care, helping them to recover from the trauma of neglect and abuse, and to achieve emotional permanence within their timescales
  • To help young people to prepare for leaving care with appropriate information, advice and guidance
  • To undertake the full range of statutory social work tasks at a higher level of quality in accordance with relevant childcare legislation and statutory guidance.
  • To undertake the full range of statutory social work tasks in accordance with the approved procedures, management action notes and practice quality standards
  • To maintain the child's case record accurately and up to date, including a record of significant events in the child's life, a case summary and family map
  • To model positive and constructive engagement in reflective supervision, as the primary source of coaching, learning and professional accountability

Essential Skills & Experience needed:

  • Social Work Degree with relevant Social Work Qualification
  • Current registration with the SWE
  • A good understanding of the current issues and themes related to social work with children and families
  • A good understanding of the main risks to a child's welfare, development and safety, along with a developing knowledge about how to reduce those risks
  • Demonstrable knowledge and practice skills in working with vulnerable children, young people and their families
  • Local authority experience
