Reporting to the CIN Deputy Team Manager or Team Manager, social workers contribute to the family support strategy for children in need by taking casework responsibility for a range of child in need cases. To work as part of a team offering a range of appropriate services to children and their families with the emphasis on ensuring that children live at home in safety and security by supporting their parents and carers in time of stress and necessary change.

DUTIES COMPRISE

  1. To receive referrals upon completion of an initial or core assessment whereby a need to work with the child and their family has been identified. To work directly with children and their families by providing the highest possible quality service to enable them, wherever possible and appropriate, to live together in the community. The work is short term and focuses on a strengths based model. Undertake specific pieces of work with children and families as directed.
  1. To carry a caseload of child in need cases, assessing need, contributing to the formulation of plans for children, implementing and contributing to reviews of those plans, and carrying out such tasks as may be necessary to do so. Undertaking and co-ordinating assessments of children who may deemed as being in need and identify, co-ordinate and/or provides an appropriate package of care.
  1. Assisting with effective and efficient provision of Child Care and Child Protection investigations, assessment and case management services in accordance with polices and procedures. This may involve applying for care proceedings and attending court. The ability to provide relevant written material will also form part of these procedures.
  1. To work in partnership with children and families and in liaison with social workers and colleagues in other agencies according to a properly formulated plan that is recorded, actioned and reviewed. Joint working with other teams and agencies as appropriate.
  1. To convene, chair and/or attend professional meetings and family support meetings and participate in planning for continued support for families in partnership with other agencies. To attend and contribute to a variety of other meetings as required, these may include, strategy meetings, case reviews conferences, working parties and training courses as required.
  1. To liaise, consult with and seek to influence the decisions and actions of others in order to implement the department's plans for children, while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
  1. To provide management information to assist in the setting, implementing and monitoring of the Department's strategies and services.
  1. To attend and contribute to supervision, carry out agreed actions on cases in accordance with departmental policies and procedures, and to draw to the supervisors or another manager's attention instances where it is not possible to do so.
