We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Qualified Social Worker to join a Children in Need Locality Team based in the London Borough of Croydon.

The main purpose of this role will be to monitor and supervise the wellbeing of children in need, children looked after and children whose names have been placed on the child protection register according to statutory and local guidelines and procedures.

Main Duties:

Undertaking assessments of need, child protection assessments, care planning and ensuring delivery of appropriate responses and actions

Working in partnership with other agencies to provide an effective child care service

Helping young people who will cease to be looked after prepare for independent living or for permanent placements (adoption or long term fostering)

Providing a preventative and rehabilitative service within the criteria of the Children Act, facilitating appropriate resources where necessary to enable children to remain with their own families

Where it is legally upheld that natural family circumstances have irretrievably broken down, to plan a secure and permanent home for children, ensuring that they have clear information about their own background and contact with natural relatives wherever possible

To keep up to date and accurate records, using information technology where appropriate

Devise individual care plans based on assessed needs and risks that take account of diversity to maintain and improve their quality of life

Manage an agreed case load in accordance with statutory and Departmental procedures and objectives, and professional good practice

Monitor, review and reassess care packages/services against identified risks, needs, and objectives to ensure the continued effectiveness in achieving required or wanted outcomes

Produce reports as required which comply with statutory and Departmental procedures and capture and analyse information clearly and guide decision making and case management

Preparing and presenting reports for case conferences, reviews, legal proceedings, planning meetings, finance panel etc. to inform decisions

Attending meetings with other agencies in order to agree, negotiate and review service provision for individuals and as a representative of the Departments on multidisciplinary working groups

Essential Skills & experience needed:

Able to write clearly and concisely and have experience of report writing

Experience of working with children and families in social work setting

Knowledge of Child Protection legislation and understanding of child protection issues and substitute care

High level knowledge of child care legislation including the Children Act 1989, Every Child Matters, Change for Children and associated guidance and regulations

Job Requirements:

An enhanced DBS that is of satisfactory level is essential
Must have a minimum of 2 years' experience working within Children's Services

Must be Social Work qualified with a valid HCPC registration
