We are currently recruiting someone with compassion, diligence and experience to become a Senior Practitioner within Thurrock Council, Essex.

Job Purpose:

  • To safeguard vulnerable children and young people
  • To provide high quality, research based casework service to all Children & Family service users and hold cases that consist mainly of the most complex family situations.
  • To offer consultation, support, specialist advice and joint working to colleagues within Children Education and Families
  • To promote children living with their family where safe to do so
  • To comply with and promote legislation, statutory guidance and local policies and procedures
  • To work with colleagues to achieve service plan objectives/targets
  • To carry a caseload of the most vulnerable children in need and children in care and ensure they receive a service that reflects the Department's commitment to safeguarding and putting the needs of individual children first
  • To represent the Department in discussions with other agencies at the discretion of Senior Management
  • To act as a source of consultation for colleagues on professional practice, with a particular focus on the development of research based practice and development of standards through performance measurement and audit
  • To demonstrate and model a high standard of practice under their own direction, that reflects a value based approach to working with children and their families and is child centred

Requirements:

  • To ensure full compliance with the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974, the Council's Health and Safety Policy and all locally agreed safe methods of work
  • To fully understand, and be aware of, the Council's commitment to the Section 17 duty of the Crime & Disorder Act 1998 to prevent crime and disorder
  • 5+ Years' experience needed
  • HCPC Registration
  • Social Work Degree
  • Demonstrates skills in assessment, analysis, including risk analysis, and case planning to meet the needs of children and young people and creating imaginative and innovative care packages
  • Demonstrates ability to use IT systems effectively
  • Communicates well and works directly with children, young people and their families, using a variety of techniques
  • Works on own initiative, prioritises, works under pressure and manages time effectively
  • Understands and is committed to diversity and equality, and treats everyone with respect
  • In depth knowledge of legislation and statutory guidance relevant to working in children's services
  • In depth knowledge of key child care and child protection research and assessment frameworks
  • Knowledge of the vision and priorities of the council and how this post contributes to their achievement
  • Knowledge of legislation relating to Data Protection and Freedom of Information
  • Specialist in-depth knowledge in associated areas of work e.g. mental health, learning disability, substance misuse, domestic abuse
  • Ability to travel within the borough or be a car driver with a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work purposes
  • Able to work flexible hours if required
