Synopsis: Tradewind Social Care are currently recruiting for a Qualified Social Worker for the Youth Offending Team in Swindon.

Main duties:

To undertake assessment of Young People referred to the Yot, using a structured assessment tool (AssetPlus)

To contribute to/ run group work programmes which enable young people to confront their offending behaviour as required

To act as Court Officer, offering professional advice to Magistrates/ Judges as required

To be part of a duty rota; to include Panel work/ Court work as required

To manage cases to National Standards set by the Youth Justice Board

To prepare timely and high quality Pre-Sentence Reports for Youth and Crown Courts

To work with the Operational Manager to implement the Referral Orders programme with the team, including rota'd Panel duties (1 x fortnightly, evenings)

To take part in Saturday and bank holiday Court rota, as required

To receive referrals and contribute to multi-disciplinary assessments of young people involved in offending

In conjunction with young people and their families or carers devise Supervision Plans to address identified problems and review, revise and evaluate these, according to National Standards

To be accountable for personal caseload management, in accordance with National Standards

To visit young people remanded or sentenced to custody or secure accommodation and undertake remand arrangements, sentence planning and Throughcare

To maintain confidential records of cases, participate in quality assurance procedures and collect statistical information as requested

To actively promote and develop links between the Youth Offending Team and other Children's Services teams

Essential Skills & Experience needed:

Experience of working with young people and families in crisis. Particularly as regards CP, CLIN, CLA and similar cohorts of young people

Effective presentation skills

Effective verbal and written communication skills

Ability to work on own initiative

Ability to prepare, review and implement supervision plans

Current driving licence and use of vehicle

Ability to demonstrate an active commitment to putting equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory work into practice

Knowledge of the principles of the Children's Act 1989 and Crime & Disorder Act 1998, LASPO Act 2012

Ability to work in a well organised manner managing time, casework and paperwork

Knowledge of Care Assessment Process

Ability to prepare, and present when necessary, Pre-Sentence Court reports for Youth, Magistrates and Crown Courts and to represent the Youth Offending Team in these Courts

Ability to work effectively with colleagues of different professions
