We have a great new opportunity for an experienced Area Manager to join their Youth Offending Team within the Northampton area.

As part of the senior management team of the Youth Offending Service, to have responsibility for developing and implementing the strategic aims of the service to ensure delivery against legislative requirements, Youth Justice Board targets, and local and national performance indicators.

The responsibilities of a Youth Offending Area Manager includes:

  • Manage YOS activities, systematically reviewing their achievement, including responsibility for the recruitment, selection and motivation of staff, appraisal and staff development, budgetary management and the commissioning of services to ensure a continually improving and cost effective service
  • Identify, develop and implement policies, procedures and quality assurance processes in accordance with relevant statutory legislation. Assess and advise on the implications of legislation and associated guidance for the YOS and partner agencies to ensure appropriate interpretation of legislation and the delivery of services
  • Be responsible for particular strategic developments, related to the reduction of reoffending by young people year by year, and ensure strong and effective operating links with partner and other relevant agencies to achieve national and local targets and objectives
  • Deputise for the YOS Head of Service, in their absence, ensuring the effective operation of the countywide Youth Offending Service. This includes managing the budget under these circumstances, as well as signing off ERPs and managing team budgets on a daily basis
  • Be responsible for specific elements and contribute to the development and implementation of annual Youth Justice Planning processes, incorporating local and national objectives in line with legislation and Youth Justice Board guidance

Requirements of a Youth Offending Area Manager:

  • A relevant degree level qualification and a professional qualification in a discipline related to the Youth Offending Service (YOS)
  • An enhanced DBS that is of satisfactory level is essential
  • Significant management experience of working in a Youth Justice setting
  • Considerable experience of managing within a complex, politically sensitive and high profile environment
  • Significant experience of practice at an operational level within a Youth Justice
  • Demonstrable management skills, particularly in initiating and leading strategic developments (e.g. involving multi agency partnership, and/or change management processes)

Salary: Up to £26.85 p/h, based on experience
